One tour - all the highlights

On this stage tour you will experience the trail highlights of the Jungfrau Region in four days. You can enjoy the unique and impressive panorama without any luggage, as this will be transported comfortably from hotel to hotel.

The tour starts and ends in Grindelwald. In between, classics such as the Kleine and Grosse Scheidegg, the Bachalpsee or the legendary Lauberhorn downhill run await you. You cycle through picturesque hamlets and chalet-style villages, but above all you enjoy stunning mountain and glacier views during the four days on the bike. Next to the world-famous triumvirate of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, many other 4000-metre peaks tower majestically - and together with the rock, the snow and the eternal ice they form the mighty backdrop to a unique natural spectacle.

But you have to earn the impressive views and fun trails, as daily stages with up to 2000 metres of altitude difference are on the programme. So you can definitely work up a sweat. Even if you are riding an E-MTB. Most of the time you are spoilt for choice. On almost every day's stage, there are two wonderful options: A direct route and a longer, technically more demanding route.

For e-bikers: Battery charging stations are available at various locations along the route. Depending on the battery power, we recommend that you also take a spare battery with you in your daypack.

Description:

Day 1 Grindelwald – Mürren

» Option 1: Direct tour, 29 km, 1560 metres altitude difference, 1650 metres descent.
» Option 2: Longer and technically more difficult tour, 39 km, 2015 vertical metres, 2110 vertical metres.

Today's tour starts with a longer ascent, either you ride the good 1100 metres in altitude directly to Kleine Scheidegg (GPS track 1a_direct) or take the diversions via Männlichen (GPS track 1a_difficult). This means an additional 400 metres in altitude and 7 kilometres. The diversions is worth it because of the sensational panorama on Männlichen and the subsequent flowing romantic trail, which means a lot of riding fun. On Kleine Scheidegg, the hub to the Jungfraujoch, you turn away from the crowd and ride with an impressive view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau towards the Lauberhorn race course, world-famous for the legendary ski race in winter. Parts of it are also accessible by bike. Ride over single trails in the direction of Hundschopf to Wengernalp. There are two options for the onward journey to Lauterbrunnen. The technically easy variant (1b_direct) leads over forest paths and meadow trails, the difficult one (1b-difficult) over partly technically very demanding trails with hairpin bends, roots and steps. Be careful, especially when wet, the crosswise wooden beams can be treacherous.

In Lauterbrunnen you can take the big gondola cableway up the next 700 metres. If you haven't done enough challenging descents for today, you can let off steam on the challenging freeride route to Lauterbrunnen - and then take the gondola cableway again. Otherwise, take it easy, with the impressive panorama of the famous triumvirate of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau always in view, to Mürren (GPS 1c).

Day 2 Mürren – Wilderswil/Interlaken

» 37 km, 740 m difference in altitude, 1800 m difference in depth.

As usual, the tour day starts with an ascent. The 700 metres of altitude difference to the Rotstock hut are not entirely rideable. By lunch at the stone-built hut, at the latest, the exertions are forgotten and the upcoming descent with 1200 metres of descent will put a smile on your face. You'll be hurtling down the official hiking trails over stones and forest floor into the valley. A varied trail with tight bends, smaller steps and flowing sections awaits you, ending at the legendary Basejump steep face in Lauterbrunnen. To finish, the bike route leads along the White Lütschine River to your next stage destination in Wilderswil/Interlaken.

Day 3 Wilderswil/Interlaken - Meiringen

» Option 1: Direct tour, 32 km, 600 metres in altitude, 580 metres in depth.
» Option 2: Longer and technically more difficult tour, 43 km, 1920 m difference in altitude, 1890 m difference in depth.

There are basically two variants available for the first stage. The chilling and direct tour (GPS track 3_direct) leads along the signposted mountain bike route 451 along the northern shore of Lake Brienz. On the signposted bike route of 32 kilometres, however, there are still 600 metres of altitude difference, and the tour leads mainly along forest roads and paved bike paths. The more difficult tour (GPS track 3_difficult) covers 42 km and almost 2,000 metres of altitude difference, but after the first long descent you can take a shortcut and cycle leisurely along the Aare to Meiringen.
Tough climbs are compensated with fun on the descents, mostly on meadow trails.

Day 4 Meiringen – Grindelwald

» Variant 1: Direct tour (technically easy, without bus), 38 km, 1900 metres altitude difference, 1400 metres descent.

» Variant 2: Direct tour (technically easy, with bus to Rosenlaui), 28 km, 1200 vertical metres, 1500 vertical metres.

» Variant 3: Difficult tour (more trails, partial ascent by bus), 41 km, 1900 metres in altitude, 2200 metres in depth (additional 750 metres in altitude and 10 km by bus).

Option 1: If you want to do the whole route under your own steam, it's best to take the direct route on Alpine Bikeroute 1 to Grosse Scheidegg (GPS 4a_direkt and 4b).

Option 2: If the 1900 metres in altitude are too much for a day's hike and you prefer to take it easy, take the post bus directly from Meiringen to Grindelwald in the morning and get off at Rosenlaui (or at an earlier or later stop). There, it's worth taking a short walk to the legendary glacier gorge before conquering the further 630 metres in altitude by bike to Grosse Scheidegg. The onward journey is then, as described below, on Alpine Bike Route 1 via First and the beautiful Bachalpsee Trail (GPS 4a_direct and 4b).

The day with the difficult Tourvarinate starts with a long ascent over alpine roads (GPS 4a_heavy). You have around 1300 metres of altitude difference in your legs when you reach the Wandelalp. The high moor landscape is a real highlight for nature lovers. The descent into the Reichenbachtal is a pleasure and only a little more challenging in places. Once you have reached the road to Grosse Scheidegg, we recommend getting on the Postbus to recharge your batteries for the last few metres of altitude and trails of the day on the spectacular ride up Grosse Scheidegg. From Grosse Scheidegg (GPS 4b), the bike trail leads via First to Bachalpsee, the most photographed mountain lake in the Alps. The GPS track follows the hiking trail. Depending on the time of day and the weather, there may be many hikers on the trail.

Depending on the time of day and the weather, there may be many hikers on the trail, in which case it is advisable to take the signposted official mountain bike route (Alpine Bike 1). After the photo stop at the lake, you need to concentrate on the descent, on the fantastic and very varied trails to Grindelwald. The 1100 metres of descent over alpine trails and root tracks are a crowning end to the day.
