The longest sledging run

Long, longer, Big Pintenfritz

Before you can experience the world’s longest sledging run, measuring 15.4 km, you first have to earn it. You can easily reach the First (at 2,166 m above sea level) from Grindelwald via the gondola cableway. The journey lasts 25 minutes. But then you will have to pull your sledge behind you for about 2.5 hours. The marked winter hiking trail takes you along the Bachalpsee to the Faulhorn (2,681 m above sea level). The wonderful views of the surrounding mountain landscape and the excitement as you contemplate your descent more than make up for the effort. All that remains is to put your helmet on and jump on your sledge. The run will take around an hour (more or less, depending on your speed). It takes you to Grindelwald via the Bussalp, as long as there is enough snow. You will descend 1,600 m in altitude in total.

Tip: It’s worth getting up early if you’re planning to try Big Pintenfritz. Sledging conditions are usually best in the morning, as, by the afternoon, the slopes can start to get slushy.
