Snow Fun with SnowTrex

Jungfrau Region's Blogbuster Series / Nr. 25

Together with SnowTrex, the Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. and Switzerland Tourism, Jungfrau Region Tourism AG organised a season-opening event in Mürren in mid-December.

On Saturday, 15 December 2019 at 3pm, 10 winners as well as some influencers gathered at Interlaken Ost train station. The atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful. Because the lucky winners had received a weekend in Mürren from the German winter sports tour operator SnowTrex.

Raphael Seiler from the Jungfrau Region Tourism AG welcomed the lively group and then they set off together to the charming mountain village of Mürren. The group checked in at Hotel Alpenruh, right next to the Schilthorn Cableway Station.

After a short introduction round, they went to the Alpine Sports Centre Mürren. With tasty mulled wine and local specialities, they had the opportunity to chat a little and the participants got to know each other better. Actually it was planned to play a game of curling on the unique outdoor rink. But the weather had other ideas and sent heavy snowfall. But that didn't spoil the mood, because as an alternative a delicious dinner was waiting at Hotel Alpenruh. With a fine wine or tasty beer the evening came to a cosy end.

On Sunday the group first enjoyed a big breakfast to start the day properly. After everyone was provided with the necessary skiing equipment, the group finally answered the call of the mountain and hit the slopes of the Mürren-Schilthorn ski area. It's the highest ski area in the Jungfrau Region by the way. It soon became apparent that not all participants had the same skiing skills. No problem at all. So the groups split up and explored the ski area. The slope conditions were already excellent for mid-December!

At lunch everyone was reunited again. At Panorama Restaurant Allmendhubel the group was able to enjoy something typically Swiss. Namely «Älplermagronen» with apple sauce. A simple but very tasty pasta dish with onions, garlic, potatoes, bacon, cream and cheese. Guests often look at us Swiss in a funny way when we mix the apple sauce with the pasta. But hey, that's really tasty! After lunch the group continued their exploration tour. Because now also the upper part of the ski area was open. It was closed in the morning due to danger of avalanches.

After countless downhill runs on the well-prepared slopes, it was time for the obligatory après ski. And not in just any bar. Next to Hotel Jungfrau in Mürren there's an old cable car cabin that becomes a bar during winter. A unique après ski experience: cheers!

A James Bond Brunch was planned for Monday in the revolving Piz Gloria restaurant on top of the Schilthorn. But unfortunately the participants could not follow in the footsteps of 007. This time it was the notorious «Föhn» wind that had something against it. A warm, dry fall wind, which is typical here in the Alps. The cableway remained closed and so the group had breakfast at their hotel in Mürren.

Fortunately, the chairlifts were still in operation and nothing stood in the way of skiing. After a light lunch the skis were exchanged for sledges. On the «Bob-Run» from Allmendhubel to Mürren, the group enjoyed some rapid rides. So there was some James Bond action after all.

All the skiing was a little bit heavy on the legs and so the group went to the cosy mountain restaurant Suppenalp. The next Swiss speciality was waiting there: Raclette. Simply delicious!

The crowning finale of this hut evening was the ride down to Mürren with sleighs and headlamps. The whole group arrived back in the village with no injures and let the day end with a drink and a get-together at their hotel.

On Tuesday, the participants were given an insight into the history of Mürren. Maria Eggimann told some interesting stories about the mountain village with about 400 inhabitants. Thanks to Maria at this point! Around noon it was time to go home. With a heavy heart the group said goodbye and then started their journey home. We'd say it was a really successful start into the winter season!

In this sense: Many thanks to all partners and participants. We're already looking forward to the continuation next year. Then it's off to the Eiger village Grindelwald.
