Grindelwald’s nature is unique — and it will stay that way only if we all act responsibly while we’re out and about. That’s why we’d like to introduce you to the most important guidelines for behaviour in the natural surroundings around Grindelwald. In short, animated videos, we show you clearly and simply what matters when you’re outdoors. In this way, together we help protect the village, the landscape and local wildlife — so Grindelwald can preserve its beauty for the future.

Episode 1

Clean nature. Without exception

Unspoilt nature stays beautiful only if we leave it that way.

Everyone loves unspoilt nature — and Grindelwald is known for it. Litter on hiking trails, in meadows or in the forest spoils this picture and can harm local wildlife. Please take your rubbish with you and dispose of it properly, even if the next bin is only in the village.

Episode 2

Stay on the paths / Protect the meadows

Stepping off the path has consequences — for the landscape and for agriculture.

The meadows around Grindelwald are mown in summer and made into hay, which is used as feed for cows, sheep and goats. If vegetation is walked on, it is trampled, can start to rot and can no longer be used. Please stay on existing paths, follow the signs and avoid unmown areas.

Episode 3

Adventure yes. Wild camping no

Clear rules protect nature, wildlife and property.

Wild camping is prohibited everywhere in Grindelwald — including above the tree line, on car parks and at Lake Bachalpsee. This local regulation goes beyond Swiss federal law and helps protect the landscape, wildlife and landowners. Violations are punished with heavy fines; for legal camping, Grindelwald’s three official campsites are available.

Episode 4

Respect private property

Grindelwald is home to its residents, not just a picture postcard.

Grindelwald is a place where people live and work. Please respect the privacy and property of local residents, avoid close-up photos of houses or residents, and do not enter private gardens or access roads. Consideration is simply part of everyday life here.
