Grosse Scheidegg
The starting point for hikes in all directions at 1962 metres above sea level.
The Grosse Scheidegg can be reached by bus from Grindelwald in 40 minutes and from Meiringen in 60 minutes. A large, cosy restaurant with over 100 seats invites you to linger. In fine weather, you can enjoy the panoramic terrace with views of the rock faces of the High Alps.
The Grosse Scheidegg is extremely popular with bikers, but also with hikers. Firstly, the Wetterhorn, Eiger and Engelhörner offer a stunning backdrop and secondly, the road is largely car-free. The hikes to First and Rosenlaui Gorge are very popular.
The Alpine Cheese Festival takes place in September.
There is a general ban on motorised traffic between Schwarzwaldalp and Grindelwald (from Hotel Wetterhorn). Buses run in the summer and winter months.
